Mrs N. Loewen Funeral Held At St John's
Lawler -- Last rites for Mrs Nick Loewen, 73, were held on Saturday, March 24, at 2 pm at St John's Lutheran Church, Lawler, Rev Paul Meyer, West Union, officiated. Interment was in the parish cemetery with Frank Schumann, Waterloo, and Clifford Ohm, Harry Ohm, Reuben Svendsen, James Hurley and Donald Benz, all of Lawler as pallbearers.
Mrs Loewen died at 2pm Wednesday, March 21, at St Joseph's Hospital, New Hampton. She had been ill for several years. Death was due to a stroke.
Martha Schumann, daughter of Karl and Augusta Schumann, was born November 7, 1888 at Pommerania, Germany. She lived there until 1897, when she came to Lawler where she had lived since. She attended the Lawler public school.
On June 1, 1908, she was united in marriage to Nicholas Loewen at New Hampton. Five children were born to this union.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs Mildred Faber, Brookfield, Ill; Mrs Gertrude Rehorst, Lawler and Mrs Josephine Bolger, Cedar Falls; one son, Carl, of New Hampton; five grandchildren and one great grandchild; five sisters, Mrs Marie of Trent, S.D.; Mrs Edith Hurley of Chicago, Ill; Mrs Dorothy Wulff, Fairfield; Mrs Anne Leonard, Waterloo and Mrs Richard Sheppard, Lincolnwood, Ill; and two brothers, Oscar Schumann of Racine, Wis and C.A. Schumann of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1958; one daughter, Edna; two brothers and one sister.
Among those attending the funeral were Mr and Mrs Russell Faber of Brookfield, Ill; Mr and Mrs James Bolger and family, Cedar Falls; Mr and Mrs Carl Loewen, New Hampton; Mr and Mrs Harland Hurley, Chicago, Ill; Mrs Richard Sheppard, Lincolnwood, Ill; Mrs Ferd Wulff, Fairfax; Mr and Mrs Oscar Schumann, Racine, Wis; and Mr and Mrs C.A. Schumann and Mr and Mrs Clayton Leonard of Lawler.
